“Men at some time are masters of their fates. The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings.” (Cassius from Julius Caesar)
What is Supervision
According to the Cambridge dictionary supervision means, “To oversee or inspect the work of other persons.” Although this is true it is a rather literal breakdown of the term and there is more to supervision than just this. For example, supervision can offer you a formal and professional means of support and learning. It can enable you as an individual or for groups of colleagues, team leaders or managers to explore their work, develop your skills and knowledge, and to support your growth in competence and confidence within your role/s.
Supervision can also offer you a safe and non-judgemental space to reflect on how your work affects you personally, professionally and how it may be received by others. It can help you to explore different options and perspectives, can help you to reduce your stress to a healthy and manageable level, show you how to create safe and healthy boundaries and develop good ways of communicating what you need to achieve your working and professional development goals.
Types of Supervision
There several forms of supervision such as clinical, dyadic and group.
Clinical supervision involves working collaboratively with your supervisor for individual supervision.
Dyadic supervision can be beneficial where there are two colleagues who work closely together in their role at work to explore their work collaboratively in joint supervision with a supervisor.
Group supervision can be where a group of up to six colleagues who work closely together or do a similar role come together to explore their work with a supervisor.
Whatever type of supervision you are looking for I work in a non-judgemental, open, honest and constructive approach, in collaboration with you as the supervisee.
How can supervision help you
I offer supervision for counsellors and psychotherapists both qualified or in training as well as those seeking supervision outside of counselling or psychotherapy. Do you suffer from imposter syndrome, find it difficult to communicate what you need to get your job done whether as a manager, colleague or member of a team? Or do you find it difficult to get others who could support you to listen? How do you feel with conflict? Are you so overworked you are functioning in survival rather than productivity mode? Being over stressed can cause both psychological and physical difficulties. Stress is one of the largest reasons for sickness and absence from work. A charity called Mental Health UK reported in their 2025 “Burn Out Report”, that approximately 21% (1 in 5) persons are needing time off from work due to poor mental health due to stress. Reducing stress levels for employees of all levels has both financial, physical and mental wellness benefits.
As Cassius from Julius Caesar said above, you can be in charge of your own fate. Supervision can help you to explore your work, identify the areas that you are thriving in and identify the areas that you may find challenging and learn to discuss, explore options in a collaborative way to find practical solutions without judgement for improved personal and professional development.
Your free 30 mins initial phone consultation will allow you to briefly discuss what you are seeking counselling support for. It will also provide the opportunity to discuss the options of face to face or online support.
